7 Signs God is telling you to End a Relationship (2023)

Matthew 6:33

Here’s the thing, relationships can be tricky to navigate sometimes. When emotions are involved, people tend to get hurt and bitterness and resentment can arise.

In any relationship romantic or otherwise, there must be clear boundaries established.

When these boundaries are violated and expectations aren’t met, relationships can become the cause of headache and stress.

Especially when it comes to romantic relationships, there are usually clear warning signs that God is telling you to run away and never look back.

However, when we get caught up in emotions it becomes difficult to see these signs and we can possibly get stuck in an unhappy relationship for many years.

Seek God First

What does God have to do with our relationships?

Many Christians neglect to ask God’s guidance when it comes to dating. They believe that God doesn’t care about such frivolous things.

But the person you choose to marry can either help lead to heaven or drag you down to hell with them.

So it’s important to seekGod first when it comes to romantic relationships. To prayerfully askfor His guidance, study the Bible and look for the warningsigns.

“But seek ye first thekingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added untoyou.” Matthew 6:33

Things aren’t always as they may seem. People may appeargreat on the surface but deep down their intentions may be deceitful.

Only God knows the hearts of each person, He knows thethoughts of everyone, so if He is giving you signs that you should end arelationship it’s definitely for your own good.

(Video) 7 Signs God Is Telling You To END The Relationship

Here are 7 signs Godis telling you to end that relationship:

1. The relationship is against God’s word

Thou shalt not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14

The first clear sign that you should end a relationship is if that relationship is against the principles laid out in the Bible.

Many of us enter into relationships because we feel so connected or in love with that person, but if the relationship directly violates God’s word, that’s a clear sign that that relationship is not one God approves.

Feelings and emotions are fleeting they come and go but God’s word stays the same; He does not change.

For example, if you are involved in a adulterous relationship (cheating on your spouse), you may feel so much love for that person.

However, at some point you’d have to make a decision whether or not your connection with this person is more important to you than your salvation.

We cannot serve God and serve self at the time. We have to pick one. We can either choose temporary happiness or choose eternal life.

2. The person encourages you to disobey God

Let no man deceive you with vain words: forbecause of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children ofdisobedience.Ephesians5:6

A clear sign that God is telling you to end a relationship is if that person encourages you to disobey God.

Ask yourself:

Is this person always asking me to violate God’s word in order to gain worldly pleasure?

Do they sometimes dissuade me from attending church services or spending time with God?

Do they act like obedience to God is more of an option rather than a requirement?

(Video) 7 Signs God Is Telling You To END The Relationship

If your answer is yes to any of the abovequestions, this may be a sign that God is telling you to run.

So Run!

We sometimes believe that if we stay with a person long enough, we can change them.

My dear, the only one who can change a person is God.

Pay attention to a person’s actions ratherthan their words. If they continuously encourage you to disobey God now, chances are they’ll continue to encourage you to disobey God three years fromnow.

3. You have no control when you’re with them

No servant can serve twomasters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he willhold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serveGod and mammon. Luke 16:13

Do you find yourself out of control when you’re with this person? Being swayed by spontaneity and emotion? Spending money wildly and making poor decisions when you’re with them?

Yea…this is a sign that God is telling you to end that relationship.

God wants us to be wise, logical and sensibly. The enemy wants us to just do what we feel and give in to our base senses.

When we have no control over our thoughtsand feelings we make bad life choices that can lead to big problems later on.

So if you find yourself not being able tosay no to that person or they have all the say about what you do, that’sprobably a sign that they’re trying to manipulate you. So take the hint and getout.

4. You are being treated poorly

If you feel like you’re being neglected or mistreated it’s a sign that that relationship should end.

No one or no amount of money is worth living in constant fear of being abused.

It doesn’t matter how long the relationship has lasted up till this point or how many children you have together if your partner is constantly treating you poorly, God is telling you it’s time to end that relationship.

5. The person is more important to you than God

Thou shalt have no other gods beforeme.Exodus 20:3

(Video) 7 Signs God is Telling you To End a Relationship (2021 Relationship Motivational)

We humans can make idols out of anythingand anyone. It’s time to end a relationship when that person has become moreimportant to you than God.

When we seek to please someone over our relationship with God, we have the made that person a god in our lives.

We have placed our trust and hope in a human who cannot provide for our needs, rather that our Heavenly Father.

You know you’ve made someone an idol when you find yourself compromising your Christian values to please that person.

Maybe it’s time to step back and re-evaluate your priorities; which is more important your relationship with God or your romantic relationship?

6. The relationship has become toxic and overbearing

Can two walk together, except they beagreed?Amos3:3

If the relationship has become a catalystfor constant stress in your life, God is telling you to end the relationship.

It is impossible for two people to be in ahealthy happy relationship if there is consistent disagreement between them.

If peace cannot be found and there isconstant regret and fighting then it’s time to prayerfully ask God for guidanceand direction.

7. Unequally yoked

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for whatfellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hathlight with darkness? 2 Corinthians6:14

We know that we shouldn’t be romantically involved with unbelievers, i.e non-Christians.

However, did you know that you can be unequally yoked with someone from your own church?

(Video) 3 Signs God Is Telling You to End a Relationship

Being unequally yoked goes far beyond just having the different religions but it also means having different value systems and ideas about life in general.

A lot of couples find themselves is grievousdisagreements because they never took the take to discuss and agree uponimportant matters such as: financial planning, raising or having children, and careerpaths.

If your idea of a happy home doesn’t match with the person you’re seeing, then there’s a great chance that you are unequally yoked and God is telling you to end that relationship.

You may be mated but you are not matched.

I believe we ought to seek God’s guidance for everything in life.

We should seek God first before we get into a relationship and during a relationship.

God may place someone in your life for only a season or he/she may be the person God is leading you to marry.

But in all things seek God first. Pray hard, study the word and look for the clues.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Prayer for Today:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Open my eyes OH Lord that I may see exactlywhat you’re trying to show me. Help me not to be persuaded by my emotions butgive me a sound mind and clear judgment.
